Heathfield heroin pair face jail sentence

By Crown Court Reporter in Crime

A couple from Newton Abbot have been warned they face jail after they admitted heroin dealing.

James Martin and Kelly Woodward were caught with drugs and £7,930 when police raided their home the day before Christmas Eve in 2015.

They both pleaded guilty when they appeared before Judge Geoffrey Mercer, QC, at Exeter Crown Court.

Martin, aged 44, and Woodward, aged 33, both of Lower Cannon Road, Heathfield, Newton Abbot, both admitted being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and the possession of criminal property.

Woodward also admitted possession of heroin with intent to supply on December 23, 2015.

Judge Mercer granted them both bail but told them:’That should not be taken as any indication of sentence. Quite the opposite.’

Mr James Hasslacher, mitigating, said they are both aware of sentencing guidelines which suggest immediate jail sentences are inevitable.

He asked for them to be given bail so they can sort out what will happen to the lease of their rented home and allow them to arrange for their dog to be looked after while they are in jail.
