Newton Abbot councillor quits Teignbridge Council

NEWTON Abbot Tory councillor Judy Grainger has unexpectedly quit Teignbridge Council this week.

The surprise revelation came on Tuesday as she tendered her resignation. Judy, who stood down as a town councillor last year, said: ‘Having dipped my toe into the political pond I recognise the whole environment is not one I feel comfortable working in.

‘I will be continuing with my direct work in the community but from now on as a local resident with a keen interest in helping improve the lives of others through my volunteering.’

Leader of the council Jeremy Christophers said: ‘Judy has been a very committed councillor and is very thorough in her work.

‘I am disappointed that she has decided to stand down.

‘It is sad that she couldn’t see out the whole term. Cllr Christophers said Judy struggled with being in the public eye and found it challenging.

‘It isn’t everyones cup of tea and the whole council will miss her,’ he added.

An election to find Judy’s replacement is being arranged for May 4 - the same day as the Devon County Council elections.
