A PUBLIC park in Newton Abbot was sealed off this morning following the tragic death of a teenager.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a teenager In Bakers Park in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A police spokesman said: “We were informed by ambulance at around 4:50am today (Saturday) they had taken a 15-year-old girl to Torbay District Hospital who was unconscious after taking an unknown substance.”
“Units attended both the hospital and the park which was where the teenager in question was located. Sadly, the girl later died at hospital. Her next of kin have been informed and police are supporting the family.”
Two other teenage girls were also taken to Torbay Hospital as a precaution.
Part of Bakers Park was closed off for most of the day as initial enquiries and a search of the area took place. Police currently believe that the girls had taken a new psychoactive substance, more commonly referred to as ‘legal highs’, and had suffered adverse reaction.
Police would like to speak to anyone who has any information in connection with this incident, including anyone who was in Bakers Park in the early hours of this morning.
