An invitation to the congregation of the United Reformed Church, Kingsteignton, to display a lily in memory of a loved one resulted in more than 100 of the blooms taking centre stage at the Easter Sunday service.

The flowers were blessed, with those present being told: 'We are reminded of the resurrection of Jesus for the lilies, once seemingly dead, buried in the ground cold and dark, now bursting into life transformed as lovely flowers.'

The stems were arranged by church florist Liz Dark and paid for by contributions from church members.

'We were overwhelmed by the response and the display was truly beautiful,' said secretary Catherine Harris, left, with Liz Dark.
