HARDLY anybody ever attends Shaldon Parish Council meetings, but on Tuesday more than 100 villagers turned up to protest at a scheme to build 25 homes on the outskirts.

The Methodist Church hall was packed as residents told councillors they were utterly opposed to the proposal on a field off Coombe Road, near St Nicholas' Church.

Although Devon County Council, the highway authority, has objected because of dangers on the narrow road, residents were warned there was no guarantee the project would be turned down by Teignbridge Council planners, and they should continue to send in individual letters of objection.
