Conservative Cllr Kevin Lake (Kenn Valley) who is acting as a count agent in Okehampton tonight predicted a tough fight with the Liberal Democrats. He said turn out in Exminster had been has high as 80 per cent. 'It felt like a heavy Conservative count but we're expecting it to be a close fight, we're taking nothing for granted,' he said. Postal votes were being counted at Okehampton College as soon as the ballot closed at 10pm. The first boxes arrived from the polling stations shortly after 11pm giving the team of 50 or so counters a taste of what is to come overnight. Election officials still suggest the result being announced between 4 - 5am.
