A WOMAN escaped with minor injuries after her car smashed into an electricity sub-station in Shaldon last night, leaving 900 homes without power.

All emergency services attended the accident on the sharp bend at the junction of Bridge Road and Fore Street.

The casualty suffered chest injuries together with cuts and bruising.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene without the need to go to hospital.

No other vehicle ws involved in the smash, which happened just after 8pm.

Power was quickly restored by Western Power which cut supplies briefly to allow firefighters to clear away spilled petrol in safety.
