FIREFIGHTERS from Bovey Tracey and Ashburton responded to reports of a van on fire in a lay-by on the A38 yesterday morning (Saturday, January 10).
On arriving at the scene fire crews found there was a well developed fire at the front of the vehicle.
After confirming that no hazardous materials were in the van, crews got to work using a hose reel jet along and breathing apparatus to extinguish the blaze.
As firefighters were working close to the main carriageway Highways England temporarily closed the Exeter-bound carriageway to ensure crews could safely deal with the blaze.
Crews remained on scene once the fire was extinguished to dampen down the van and to ensure no fuel had entered a nearby drain. After checking over the vehicle with a thermal imaging camera both crews returned to there stations and incident was left with highways authorities.
