A MOTORCYCLIST was seriously injured in a head-on smash with a car outside Newton Abbot this morning (Friday).

The rider, who has not been named, was airlifted by helicopter to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital with a serious leg injury which is feared to be life-changing.

Police and paramedics were called to the A383 Newton Abbot to Ashburton road near the Seal Hayne turn-off just before 7am.

The car involved was a VW Golf. The driver escaped with minor injuries.

A police spokesman at 10.15am said the road remained blocked.
