ARMED police were called to an address in Newton Abbot this morning to deal with a bust-up involving a group of men.

Officers with guns rushed to a property in Paynsford Road, near Newton Abbot College, to deal with the ‘altercation’.

The alarm was raised at 9am, followed minutes later by a cacophony of emergency vehicle sirens echoing around the town.

All crews descended on the address in the Abbotsbury area.

A police spokesman said two men were later arrested.

The 999 response included the police helicopter hovering over the scene.

A spokesman at police headquarters in Exeter said at 10am: ‘Units are on the scene - and this includes support from firearms officers.

‘Ambulance crews are also in attendance.’

He added: ‘Two people have been detained.’

It’s not known if anyone was injured during the disturbance. The number of men involved in the disagreement is not known.
