A MAN has been placed under police guard in hospital after armed officers arrested him following a disturbance in Lustleigh yesterday.
They detained the injured man after he was thought to have been involved in a bust-up with others in the Parkfield area of the picture-postcard village at 3.30pm.
A police spokesman said the man, in his 50s, suffered a suspected fractured skull during the incident officers were responding to.
Some officers were armed amid reports the suspect may have made threats and was allegedly carrying a weapon.
The arrest was made an hour after officers arrived at the scene.
Police negotiators were also involved in the operation.
The man, who has not been named, was taken for treatment at Torbay Hospital where he remains under police guard.
Meanwhile police have been posted outside the property where the incident kicked off.
A spokesman at police headquarters in Exeter said inquiries were continuing.
