THE ASHBURTON section of Dartmoor Search and Rescue team were deployed yesterday (Wednesday) by Devon and Cornwall Police to help locate and evacuate an elderly male walker who had taken a fall near Combestone Tor near Hexworthy.
A passing member of the public, who had spotted the walker had given the location about 200m metres south west of Horn’s Cross.
A full team call-out was initiated at 12.45 and a South Western Ambulance service hazardous area response team had also been requested.
However, soon after the call-out a DSAR team member already walking in the area was deployed to the given location arriving to the gentleman’s location at 1.10pm.
By this time the duty search manager had established that the casualty was being assisted to walk off by the reporting person.
He was met at the car park by team members and an ambulance crew at 1.25pm with snow starting to fall and remaining team members were stood down at 1:27pm.
