A COW came a cropper in Ashburton this morning.

The beast of the field toppled over in a barn at Woodend just before 10.30am.

Firefighters from the town were and a specialist rescue team from Plymouth were called out to put the farmer’s friend back on its feet.

An RSPCA official and vet were also called to the scene of the tumble.

A fire spokesman said: ‘The cow was on its back in a barn.

‘The crews used manpower to right the animal who was then able to stand unaided.’
