A CAMPERVAN was destroyed after bursting into flames in Ashburton over the weekend.

Four crews rushed to the scene at Halsanger Cross just after 2pm yesterday to find the vehicle well alight.

Breathing gear was worn as firefighters used a hosereel jet and compressed air foam to extinguish the blaze.

Crews from Bovey Tracey and Buckfastleigh were first on scene followed by back-up in the shape of two pumps from Newton Abbot.

A fire spokesman confirmed that the vehicle was destroyed. The cause was accidental.
