FIREFIGHTERS from Bovey Tracey were among the scores of fire crews who responded to a major fire in Somerset earlier today (Thursday, February 18).
Fifteen fire appliances from across Somerset attended the blaze at the Bridgwater and Taunton College in Bridgwater which at its height saw over 90 firefighters tackling a blaze which had flames shooting 30 feet into the night sky.
Bovey Tracey’s Incident Support Unit was tasked to the scene in the early of the morning to assist crews fighting the fire that gutted a workshop building at the college.
A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and rescue Service said: ‘’The fire at the college is believed to have started in the motor workshop area. The initial call came through at 3.30am and a total of 15 fire appliances plus additional specialist units attended the incident.
‘A stop message was received at 11.15am confirming the fire was under control and the last appliance left the scene at 3.45pm after final checks for any remaining hotspots.’
The fire was confirmed to be deliberate after fire investigation work took place.
