FIRE crews tackled a property blaze in the Broadlands area of Newton Abbot in the early hours of this morning (Sat June 30).

Appliances from Newton Abbot and Torquay rushed to the scene in Brownhills Road after a 999 call at half-past midnight reporting a house fire with possible persons reported.

On arriving the officer in charge confirmed there was a fire on the ground floor of the property and that all persons were accounted for.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman sad: “Crews quickly got to work using four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.”

“Once they had extinguished the fire, crews used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the property of smoke, while two adults were treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.”

The property was 100% damaged by smoke and fire on the ground floor and 50% damaged by smoke on the first floor.
