FIRE control was inundated with calls after a car caught fire in Newton Abbot.

Numerous witnesses saw the vehicle alight in St Marychurch Road, Milber.

Firefighters from Newton Abbot were scrambled just after 2pm on Tuesday.

They wore sets of breathing gear to tackle the blaze and used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

The privately owned car was severely damaged.
