FIREFIGHTERS went to church today after a blaze was reported in Newton Abbot’s East Street.

They attended the old baptist church to extinguish a small fire involving waste in a consumer room.

Two sets of breathing gear were worn by firefighters who used a hosereel jet, covering jet and dry powder extinguisher to deal with the incident.

The alarm was raised just before 1pm.
