THREE fire crews tackled a blazing bungalow in Kingsteignton yesterday afternoon.

The alarm was raised just after 2pm by the owner who was alerted by an explosion coming from inside her home in Darran Road.

Two fire crews from Newton Abbot and one from Torquay dealt with the blaze which caused 25 per fire damage to the back of the property at the end of a no-through road.

Six sets of breathing gear were worn by firefighters who knocked out the flames with two hosereel jets and a safety jet.

The elderly occupant, who was not hurt, was found alternative accommodation after the property was left temporarily uninhabitable.

It’s believed tea lights may have been the cause of the fire.
