TWO terrier dogs were rescued after plunging 30ft down a steep embankment in Shaldon at the weekend.
The pair, thought to have been chasing a cat, were well and truly stuck in the undergrowth after surviving their dramatic tumble in Old Commons Road at 3.30pm yesterday (Sunday).
Their repeated barks over a two-hour period suggested they were in need of some assistance to help them get out of the jam.
Firefighters came to their aid by using extension ladders to drop into the overgrown chasm and retrieve the duo.
The drama was all wrapped up within the hour with both dogs none the worse for their ordeal.
A fire spokesman said: ‘We think they had been chasing a cat and went through a hedge to find themselves dropping 20ft-30ft down the embankment. They could not get back up.’
He added: ‘We got to them through back gardens in Fore Street. They were quite subdued when we got to them – and licked us by way of thanks.’
There is no record of the cat, but it’s thought it escaped any harm.
