A TEENAGE rider suffered a suspected fractured elbow and sprained ankle when she came off her horse when it spooked and reared in Ipplepen.
The 17-year-old was riding along Moor Road opposite Ipplepen Cricket Club between 9am and 9.30am on Saturday when a car came around a corner causing the horse to spook and rear, but the driver then drove off without speaking to her.
She was taken to Torbay Hospital for treatment.
Police, who are appealing for witnesses of the incident, described the driver as a white man, approximately 40-years-old, of large build and was possibly wearing a high visibility jacket.
They would like to speak to anyone who saw a blue Ford Ka in the area at around 9.30am on Saturday, to contact them.
PC Daniel Furneaux said more and more people would be using the roads in Devon and Cornwall during the summer months.
‘These include cyclists, horse riders, walkers and more vehicles. As always we would remind people to be mindful of the vulnerability of other road users and to travel safely,’ he said.
Any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the police by telephoning 101, quoting log number 243 of April 16, or by email to: [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]).
Information can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or online at: www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
