AN elderly motorist escaped unhurt after his car lost control on a bend and ended up on its side at roadworks outside Newton Abbot.

Paramedics and firefighters helped to get the dazed casualty out of the car which rolled over on a left bend just after the Teigngrace junction on the Bovey Tracey road.

He was taken to Torbay Hospital for a precautionary check-up because of his age.

Firefighters from Newton Abbot made the vehicle safe while the driver was helped from the vehicle.

The accident, which involved no other vehicles, happened just after 3pm on Monday.
