FIREFIGHTERS in Teignmouth said farewell to one of their longest serving colleagues.
Steve Combstock completed 33 years of service to the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and to his own community.
A celebration of his time with the service was held at Teignmouth Fire Station when he was presented with many gifts from his colleagues.
His colleagues and friends took to social media to show their appreciation of Steve.
One said: ‘Last night we said goodbye to one of Teignmouth’s longest serving firefighters Steve Combstock who’s given 33 years to supporting our community and wider area.
‘Sharing his skills and wealth of knowledge to us newer ones along the way.
‘We not only thank Steve but also his wife, Lynn, and his sons for all the missed times day and night when he’s been called out.
‘He and us wouldn’t have been able to have done it without your support and flexibility.’
Many other social media tributes have been paid to Steve’s dedication to the service.
One said: ‘Well done Steve, an amazing commitment, thank you.’
Other wellwishers thanked Steve for his years of service to the local community and wished him well for his retirement.
He was described as an ‘unsung hero’ and a ‘credit to Teignmouth’.
Steve was praised for his great service and dedication and support for his colleagues at Teignmouth fire station.
Former colleagues said it had been a ‘great pleasure’ serving with him.
One wellwisher said: ‘Great service Steve thanks for your dedication and support to all of us at Teignmouth and not forgetting Fred your father who also served at Teignmouth.’
All praised his dedication to the service and Teignmouth.
