FIVE teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a major fire at derelict railway sheds in Newton Abbot over the weekend.
Three 15-year-old boys and two 14-year-old boys were taken into custody but were released under investigation pending further enquiries, police revealed today.
More than 100 firefighters spent hours tackling an inferno at the historic building on the Brunel Industrial Estate on Sunday afternoon.
Detective Sergeant Andy Penhaligon said: ‘This was a large fire that took hold of a sizeable proportion of the building and the fire continued for more than 24 hours.’
The abandoned site just off Forde Close is set to be transformed into a new Aldi store.
DS Penhaligon added: ‘We are continuing to carry out enquiries with Aldi, the owners of the building.’
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information should contact police by calling 101 or emailing [email protected] quoting CR/097864/18.
