He was caught in the act on camera, on November 5, by a member of the public who did not want to confront him because he had a young child with him, and the man seemed to be drunk.

The resorts team from Teignbridge council arranged for the removal of the graffiti prior to the Armistice Day commemorations.

Cllr David Cox said that if the culprit could be traced, the police would be informed and he would probably be dealt with by means of restorative justice.

‘There is too much graffiti spraying going on at the moment, and it is disfiguring prominent places. Hopefully somebody will recognise the culprit.’
