A NEWTON ABBOT fire crew were called into action this evening (Tues, Jan 16th) after reports of a chimney fire in the town.

One pump from the town’s station headed off to Halcyon Road just before 8pm after Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire within a chimney at a property on Halcyon Road.

On arriving at the scene, the officer in charge confirmed there was a small fire involving a wooden beam within a fireplace housing the wood burner, and crews used a Makita Saw and small tools to expose parts of the beam to ensure the fire was out.

Duty of care was left with the occupiers.
