Fire crews were called to the Lloyd Maunder butchers in Fore Street, Bovey Tracey, yesterday afternoon.
Staff had smelled burning and noticed smoke coming from a SWEB fuse box on the premises.
Three pumps attended as it was feared that if fire broke out it could spread to neighbouring properties. Once it was established the problem was under control two crews departed, leaving one on the scene.
SWEB workers made good the fuse box, which is believed to have melted in the hot weather.
The shop closed while the emergency took place, and reopened after three hours.
