A MAN was taken to hospital overnight (Tuesday, March 15) after being found on the roof of a building behind Newton Abbot’s library.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene at 2.30am after the 40-year-old man was spotted climbing up scaffolding near the cattle market.

Officers were able to reach the man and talk to him after using a short extension ladder provided by the fire crew.

He was safely brought down from the building’s flat roof – about 10ft off the ground - and taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital for a check-up.

A police spokesman said the man was not injured.
