A BUCKFAST man has denied illegally hunting deer with dogs at night.

Daniel Ravenscroft, aged 38, is appealing at Plymouth Crown Court against an earlier conviction when he was found guilty of setting dogs loose on deer.

Ravenscroft was one of a gang of 11 men found guilty in 2016 at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court for a series of attacks on badgers, foxes and deer.

Another member of the gang, Philip Cross of Tonypandy in Wales, is also contesting the verdict.

At the 2016 hearing Ravenscroft, of Grange Road, Buckfast, was sentenced to six weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

The hearing has been adjourned until March 1.
