A 50-YEAR-OLD man has died after a tree fell on two cars in Buckfastleigh early this morning.

Emergency services responded to the 999 shout on the A384 near Buckfastleigh at 5.30am after a tree landed on an Alfa Romeo and a Hyundi i20.

The driver of the Alfa Romeo, a man from Totnes, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Buckfastleigh woman in her 20s, who was driving the Hyundai, was taken to Derriford Hospital with minor injures.

The road is expected to be closed for most of the day and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
