A MAN lost all his possessions after his converted shipping container home in Chudleigh was destroyed in a fire over the weekend.
Three fire crews dealt with the intense blaze which reached temperatures of 900 degrees centigrade at a smallholding in Thornes Cross on Saturday evening.
It’s thought embers from a nearby controlled burning managed to work their way underneath the container which burst into flames.
Firefighters from Teignmouth and Newton Abbot were called to the scene just before 7.30pm when the 15x5m ‘building’ was well alight.
Four sets of breathing gear were worn as two hosereel jets were used to knock out the flames.
A fire spokesman said: ‘The container was full of combustible material. It was a very difficult fire to deal with because of the intense heat.’
Firefighters spent three hours dealing with the blaze which is being treated as accidental.
The occupier is understood to have found alternative accommodation in the wake of the incident.
