A WOMAN was injured when her mobility scooter was in collision with a van in Newton Abbot this afternoon.

Police closed off East Street after the accident near Sainsbury’s Local store shortly after noon.

A police spokesman said the casualty escaped with minor injuries. She was taken by ambulance for treatment at Torbay Hospital.

The incident caused serious traffic congestion with police diverting vehicles away from the scene.

The road was reopened shortly before 2pm.
