FIREFIGHTERS were called to a Newton Abbot pub after the oak beam over its fireplace caught alight.

Crews from the town and Torquay attended the Locomotive Inn in East Street after the beam started to smoke.

A section of the beam was cut away to deal with the problem after the alarm was raised on Wednesday just before 6pm.
