A teenager from Newton Abbot has appeared at Exeter Crown Court accused of attacking a neighbour with a hammer and a knife.

Elliott Caruana, aged 19, did not enter any pleas when he appeared by video link from Exeter Prison and his case was adjourned for him to be brought to court in person next week.

Caruana is accused of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm during an incident in which he allegedly struck a neighbour on the head with a hammer.

The complainant also suffered a small cut to his arm during the incident last month.

Caruana is also accused of forcing entry to a house, having a knife in a public place, and possession of cannabis.

Judge Geoffrey Mercer, QC, adjourned the case for eight days and remanded Caruana in custody.
