THE MOTHER of Parliaments was in an unprecedented state of lockdown yesterday (March 22nd) afternoon following a terrorist attack at the Palace of Westminster.

It is believed that a police officer had been stabbed and his assailant shot within the precincts of the Palace of Westminster.

The attackt followed on from an incident on Westminster Bridge where a SUV-type vehicle had mowed down several pedestrians before crashing into railings surrounding the Palace of Westminster.

Teignbridge MP Anne Marie Morris is one several hundred MPs currently locked within Parliament for their own safety.

In a text to the MidDevon Advertiser Anne Marie said: “ We are all locked in as the search continues. All is calm in here but we all want to get home as soon as we can.”

According to the Commons Leader David Lidington who addresed MPs "an alleged assailant was shot by armed police following a "serious" incident.

Scotland Yard said the attack in Westminster was being treated "as a terrorist incident until we know otherwise".

Teignbridge District Councillor Doug Hellier Laing was in the QE II Conference Centre close to the Houses of Parliament at the time of the attack.

He said: "We were informed by staff that a vehicle had driven across Westminster Bridge. We have now been evacuated from the centre due to a suspect package in a vehicle that has been found."

He described the scene as chaotic with numerous helicopters overhead and dozens of police vehicles.
