POLICE sealed off an area of woodland in the grounds of Old Forde House in Newton Abbot today in connection with a serious sexual assault.

Forensic teams and officers spent four hours at the scene bagging up evidence including clothes and a tent.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the investigations are linked to a sexual offence which took place a couple of nights ago.

The scene, a hot spot for dog walkers, is just before Toby Carvery on the way to the Penn Inn Roundabout.

A spokesman for Teignbridge Council, which owns Old Forde House, said: ‘We are aware that the police have cordoned off part of the grounds at Old Forde House.

‘As this is being treated as a criminal scene, we offer our full support and assistance to the police in their investigations.’
