A revenge attacker threw a television and remote control at a hostel resident who he blamed for having a friend evicted and made homeless.

Nigel Paull, now of Abbotsbury Road, Newton Abbot, did not know victim Lee McDonald but went to his bedsit in Torquay with two other men to attack him. One of the others stole his phone before they left him stunned and bleeding.

They were angry with him because he had complained about their friend Andrew Stevens coming home drunk at 5 am, resulting him being thrown out of the accommodation in Victoria Road.

Stevens was made homeless and was sleeping on a beach in Torquay when he told Paull and his drinking buddy John Guite about his plight and they all went to confront Mr McDonald.

CCTV at the hostel showed Paull leading Guite and another man into the victim’s room where they left the door open, meaning the attack itself was filmed.

Paull could be seen lashing out at Mr McDonald before picking up a flat screen television and lifting it over his head before hurling it at the victim.

He also threw a remote unit for an X Box console at his head, leaving him with injuries including a cuts on his scalp and right ear that needed hospital treatment.

Guite stole Mr McDonald’s mobile before they all left and went back to the Hop and Grape pub, where Stevens stamped on it and destroyed it.

Paull, aged 53, admitted causing actual bodily harm and was jailed for nine months, suspended for 18 months and ordered to do 20 days of rehabilitation activities and pay £800 compensation and £200 costs.

Guite, aged 45, of Coburg Place, Torquay, admitted theft and was fined £500 with £100 compensation and £215 costs by Judge Peter Johnson at Exeter Crown Court.

He told them:”It is quite clear you went there to sort out Mr McDonald, who you thought had led to a friend of yours becoming homeless and sleeping on a beach.

“Within seconds, he was attacked and received some very unpleasant injuries. He was pummelled and had objects thrown at him including a television
