TEIGNMOUTH Town Council has put up a £200 reward to catch the graffiti vandal who attacked the Kingsway Meadow Centre.

Overnight the walls of the community centre were daubed with obscene graffiti and drawings. Determined not to let this damage the well used and popular centre, three councillors picked up their paintbrushes and went into action.

Cllr Andrew Henderson, Teignmouth mayor Cllr Peter Williams and Cllr David Cox painted out the graffiti and used anti-graffiti spray to remove the same type of graffiti at the Kingsway bus stop.

A graffiti tag was removed from the Kingsway bus shelter by the councillors and washed by KRA Youth Worker Karen Ryding.

Cllr Williams said: ‘We are normally very lucky around here and don’t have problems like elsewhere.

‘But I have to say we’ve had a few niggling problems like this recently.

‘The public’s vigilance in this would be greatly appreciated and any information will be dealt with disceetly and with the police.

‘The police have done a fantastic job recently and really got to grips with the adolesents who were causing problems.

‘Neigbourhood beat manager Matt Jacques and his team are determined to stop all that. Anyone causing problems needs to be aware they are not going to get away with it.’

Cllr Henderson told the post: ‘It is important to get rid of graffiti as quickly as possible to stop it spreading – the Kingsway Meadow Centre is really important to the local community. I’m very sad that someone has done this.’

Centre trustee, Cate Jewell, said: ‘It is disappointing that this has happened, but on behalf of the trustees it is wonderful how quickly the community has responded to help especially David Cox and Andy Henderson with their physical time to re-paint and Peter for his financial contributions to make good those repairs.

‘I’m sure the other trustees would join me in thanking our councillors and the mayor for acting quickly.’

Teignmouth Town Council will pay a reward of £200, to anyone who provides information to identify the graffiti vandal who vandalised the Kingsway Meadow Centre.
