SEVEN men were detained on suspected immigration offences during a police operation outside Bovey Tracey this afternoon.

Officers descended on the A382 Bovey Straights and closed the busy road just before 3pm to intercept a lorry seen in suspicious circumstances at Marsh Mills outside Plymouth an hour earlier.

A police spokesman explained at 4pm: ‘It was reported that a motorist had spotted people on top of a lorry travelling in the Exeter direction.

‘We located the vehicle at 2.45pm on the A38 in the Drumbridges area.’

He added: ‘Seven men have been taken into custody in connection with what are believed to be immigration offences.

‘The Inland Border Force has been informed and inquiries continue.’
