A WOMAN from Newton Abbot suffered serious head injuries when her family’s car crashed near Ashburton.

The casualty, in her 40s, was a back-seat passenger in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V which smashed into a hedge on the road from Spitchwick Common.

She remains in a critical condition in Pymouth’s Derritford Hospital after being flown there by air ambulance following last Wednesday night’s accident just before midnight.

The driver and another passenger - two men in their 20s and 40s - were rushed to the same hospital by land ambulance. Each escaped with minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The road was closed for five-and-a-half hours while officers carried out an examination of the scene and the vehicle was recovered.

Officers investigating the collision would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.

They should email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting log number 0865 of March 6.
