FIREFIGHTERS from Teignbridge were called to help colleagues tackle a major hotel blaze just off Torquay seafront today (June 4).

Crews from Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Bovey Tracey went to the derelict Shedden Hall Hotel after the fire was spotted just before 7am.

By midday the blaze was under control with the contingent of 50 firefighters dealing with the major incident cut back to just 15.

The hotel, empty for the last eight years, was due to be renovated as a residential complex.

It’s feared the building is in danger of collapsing after the ravages of the fire.

Local roads around the building have been cordoned for safety reasons.
