A BUSY Teignmouth road was closed for five hours as police investigated an accident which left an elderly pedestrian seriously injured.
The 74-year-old casualty, local to the resort, was in collision with a red Seat Arosa on the pedestrian crossing at Lower Brook Street just after 3pm yesterday.
He was taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital after suffering a serious head injury which a police spokesman said could be ‘life-changing’.
The motorist, an 81-year-old woman from Teignmouth, was not hurt in the collision which happened outside the Waitrose store.
The road was closed for five hours to allow officers from the Roads Policing Team to carry out a forensic examination of the scene.
