A WOMAN was rescued after being trapped under a tree she had chopped down in a Teignmouth garden.
Firefighters managed to lift the encumbrance off the casualty who had been hit on the head by the tumbling tree as it fell to earth.
The drama was played out in a back garden in Bligh Close at 1pm yesterday (July 30).
The woman, aged 36, was taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital with injuries to her arm, shoulder and head.
She was conscious throughout the ordeal.
A fire spokesman said the woman was walking away from the tree she had been chopping down when it decided to succumb to her efforts.
‘Manpower was the easiest way to help. She was a bit distressed at first, but we got her to sit up and she was fine then. Four firefighters then lifted up the tree to free her,’ said the spokesman.
Her injuries were not thought to be serious.
