TOWELS and toilet roll caught fire in a Kingsteignton home on Saturday morning.

Fire crews from Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Torquay were called in shortly before 11.30am after a neighbour reported the fire due to a smoke alarm sounding and a smell of smoke.

A fire control spokesperson said: ‘Crews gained entry to the empty property, and confirmed a small fire in the first floor bathroom involving towels and toilet roll.

‘Crews entered the property using two breathing apparatus, and a hose reel jet.

‘Crews removed the burning items to open air, and checked the property with thermal imaging cameras.

‘The cause of the fire was deemed as accidental.’
