TWO arrests were made by police outside Channings Wood Prison late on Wednesday afternoon, reports Paul James.
Officers in a fleet of squad cars raced through Newton Abbot just after 4pm on their way to the Denbury jail where ‘items’ were seized inside the grounds.
The pair detained, both male, were taken to Torquay Police Station’s custody centre for questioning.
Both men, believed to be prison visitors, were still being quizzed there yesterday morning.
Police confirmed that items were seized inside the grounds, but they would not reveal what they were.
The arrests come in the wake of two recent damning reports about the running of the prison where staff morale is said to be at an all-time low.
