IT has been confirmed that a woman was flown to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital with head injuries after the car she was in collided with a double-decker bus outside Bakers Park in Newton Abbot.
The trapped passenger suffered head and leg injuries in the accident which happened on the Totnes Road just after 7pm on Friday.
The 19-year-old male driver, who escaped with a facial injury, was taken to Torbay Hopsital.
All three emergency services responded to the incident, including the Devon Air Ambulance which landed in the park.
Four fire crews - two from Newton Abbot and one each from Paignton and Torquay - answered the 999 calls together with three ambulances and a flurry of police squad cars.
Hydraulic spreading gear was used by firefighters to free the woman who was trapped in the damaged Ford Fiesta. Paramedics were able to treat her during the incident.
The bus driver was not hurt.
Police said the road was closed for more than two hours while the scene was cleared.
A spokesman said the driver of the Fiesta, from Newton Abbot, was reported for allegedly driving without care.
