VANDALS broke into Bovey Tracey Cricket Club pavilion, damaging seating and an electrical socket.

Police are appealing for information about the break-in, which happened in the run-up to Christmas.

Reasons for the damage are unknown and although the value is described as ‘minimal’, officers investigating the incident say it is the principle of an attack on sports facilities.

The incident is being treated as criminal damage and police are keen to hear from anyone who may have information or may have seen anything suspicious in the area.

It is not clear how the intruders got inside the building but they may have gained access through a window.

Cricket club bosses are now understood to be taking measures to improve security.

A police spokesman said: ‘There has been no trouble at the club like this for a long time so we were quite surprised it has happened.

‘While the value of the damage may not be high, it is the principle of someone causing damage to property. If anyone saw or heard anything, please let us know.’

The break in happened between Monday, December 21, and Tuesday, December 22.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101 or emailing [email protected] and quoting crime reference CR/087887/15.
