A MAN suffered facial injuries when he was attacked and robbed in a Newton Abbot park over the weekend.

The 29-year-old man was in Courtenay Park when he was set upon and robbed of a quantity of alcohol he had with him.

The incident, which has prompted a police appeal for witnesses, happened at 8.30pm on Saturday.

A spokesman said: ‘We would like to speak to any person who may have been in the park or witnessed the incident.’

The spokesman said one man, aged 19, has been arrested and questioned in connection with the assault.

The suspect, detained on suspicion of robbery, was later bailed until July 4 pending further inquiries.
