TWO people were hurt in a five-car smash on the A38 at Chudleigh this afternoon.

One car crashed off the southbound carriageway and rolled over several times before coming to a stop 40 metres into a field.

The Devon Air Ambulance was called to the scene together with fire crews and police units at 2.30pm.

A woman in the car which ended up off the road suffered back injuries as did a man in another vehicle.

Major traffic congestion soon built up with tailbacks reported back from the first Chudleigh turn-off.
