A SIXTY-YEAR-OLD woman from Chudleigh died yesterday after her car was involved in a collision with another vehicle at a crossroads on the outskirts of the town.
The woman, who has not been named, was driving a Ford Fusion along Milestone Lane from the town when it collided with a Mitsubishi travelling from the direction of the Whiteway estate at just after 3.30pm.
The casualty was pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency services.
Police, fire and ambulance crews responded to the incident.
A police spokesman today (thurs) appealed for any witnesses of the fatal crash to come forward.
The occupants of the Mitsubishi - a 35-year-old woman from the Chudleigh area together with a male passenger - sustained minor injuries.
The road was closed for nearly eight hours while accident investigators examined the scene.
Anyone who saw the collision is asked to ring police on 101, quoting log 486 of November 16.
The dead woman, who is thought to have suffered a serious head injury and cardiac arrest, was taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital.
The Devon Air Ambulance was among the emergency vehicles which responded to the 999 calls.
HM Coroner has been informed of the tragedy. An inquest to take formal evidence of identity is expected to be opened early next week.
A full inquest will be held next year.
